The early Greeks and the Romans used aquamarine in their jewellery with sailors regarding aquamarine charms as lucky omens against stormy seas.
If you are one the of many people who believe in the spiritual properties, aquamarine is deemed to be the stone of courage and is said to calm the mind and strengthen the body's cleansing organs.
The colour of natural aquamarine is blue with sea-green highlights or sometimes the other way round. However, as with many gemstones, aquamarine is frequently heat treated to remove the green, giving the popular blue colour. The deeper the blue colour the more valuable the gemstone.
The majority, and most of the best quality aquamarine, is mined in Brazil but it is also located in from Pakistan, Africa and United States of America.
